The Laughing Heart (Original, Signed and Framed)

Recently, I've been experimenting with oil paints - it's a totally different game to watercolours as you might imagine.  It requires real patience in allowing the layers of paint to dry, before applying another layer. It could be weeks - and a hairdryer (as I blast around the place with watercolours) just doesn't cut it. Perhaps this is why its taken so long to paint this one!

I suppose recently I've had to be patient with myself.  Situations change and I've had to adapt.  In January, my gallery and studio returned to my home, after an unfair hike in rent, but that's fine.  If you visit me now, you'll get a much nicer cup of coffee and potentially some cake. I would love to welcome you :)

I find comfort in thinking about the summer and warmth in longer days to come, out walking with someone special and the calmness that brings to my soul. This painting is from imagination but influenced by walking in the Sussex countryside near Amberley, where fields of wild daisies and wheat sit side by side in late summer.

The title comes from a poem by Charles Bukowski that I like to read when things are feeling a little out of kilter and we need a reminder of how patience and perseverance can serve us especially well in times of need.  This painting came about when I haven't been feeling too great in all honesty, and yet there is a genuine light and joy to it.  I think that must say something, that maybe deep inside me -  my heart is still laughing and ready for what's next.
