A Little Beach (Original, Signed and Framed)

This painting is inspired by the demise of my boiler, an Alpha CB24 - apparently notorious for being shit. 

For the past month I've been having cold showers.  Initially this was diabolical, but after a while I found it was making me feeling rather buoyant. 

We're probably all aware, or have at least seen something on social media or read something on the therapeutic benefits of cold water, so perhaps my boiler was doing me a favour, bless it.

So whilst my head has been subjected to a never before felt level of numbness and my body shivering, it got me thinking about how to try and express the cold through painting. 

Paul Cézanne once said in a letter to a friend, 'The strong feeling for nature - and certainly I have that vividly - is the necessary basis for all artistic conception'.  I really like this because in my mind he's saying that the natural world is the starting point, it creates the feeling.  Which I like to bang on about when I say -  'I'm trying to paint a feeling'!

Anyway, I have a deep fondness for mountains and water, and perhaps this is best illustrated by the Fjords of Norway and the Lochs of Scotland.  Places I love, carved out my ancient glaciers. 

Wait...Glacial water is cold, very cold with strange abundant blue hues full of history, often below mystical, dramatic skies. My shower is also cold.  Paul Cézanne is one of my favourite artists...

And so it is, inspiration comes from artistic masters, majestic natural, awesome wonder and broken boilers. As I progress more into using oil paints, I wanted to add texture to the 'little beach'.  I've seen many times these little patches of sand, on which I like to stand on and just look.  Perhaps you can imagine standing here and being reminded that there is still so much beauty to behold.  Stay warm x
